Talking about the various forms of skin cancers, we often hear about the term “ultra violet radiations” or simply UV radiations. Approximately all of us know that the ultra violet rays do come from the sun. And the exposure to the sunrays containing harmful UV rays is the major risk factor causing most of the skin cancers. Tanning lamps, computer screens etc are also a source of UV rays. People working in an environment with a exposure to the resources emitting uv rays are at a higher risk to be affected from skin cancer.

Though among the total of sun rays, ultra violet rays cover just a small portion but still they are number one factor to cause skin damage. UV rays damage the skin cells causing skin cancer in turn. There are three typers of ultra voilet rays namely, the UVA rays , UVB rays and UVC rays respectively.

Tanning bed or UVB rays are highly responsible to damage the skin cells and in turn damage the D.N.A of the skin cells of a person. UVB rays can cause sunburn. UVA rays and uvb rays both have the power to damage the skin and cause the skin cancer.The amount of damage depends upon the time and amount of the exposure to the radiations. Uvr rays are not found in the sunlight but scattered all over the atmosphere. Though classified in three types but there is no type of safe ultra voilet ray found till yet. So any type of ultra voilet ray u may come through, not any of them is safe to survive in contact with. Sun burn and tanning are the outcomes of skin exposure to harmful ultra voilet radiations. Long term sun exposure can hence cause ageing , wrinkles , patches ( often dark ) or age spots. These skin changes can even prove to be cancerous.

The extent of harm depends on the strength of the rays person undergoes, the time limit for which the skin has been in contact of the rays and whether the skin was coered or not.

It is generally advised to cover off skin with a cloth or a sunscreen while getting out in the sun so as to aoid getting in contact of the harmful ultra voilet radiations . Don’t get out too much in the sun in order to be safe .An umbrella can be used while getting out in the sun and though it is also important for the body to get some of the sun’s vitamin D, but while getting exposed in the sunlight make sure to use some good sun screen lotion.
