How Does Bhagwad Geeta Differ From Analects

Analects, which were written during the Warring States Period (475BC-221BC) by Confucius and his followers, are a Chinese collection of sayings and ideas. Confucius used to be a philosopher as well as a thinker. The Bhagavad Gita on the other hand is a religious holy book of Hindu people from India, which includes a combination of 700 verses written in Sanskrit which can be depicted as a narrative framework of dialogue between Pandava prince Arjuna and Lord Krishna in the battlefield of Kurukshetra during time of third to fourth millennium BCE. Both can be differentiated in following ways:-

How Does the Bhagavad Gita differ from the Analects

How Does the Bhagavad Gita differ from the Analects

1. Difference of Form:-

Talking about the form in which Bhagavad Gita has been written, it is an answer to each and every question that a human asks of himself. Let it be the formation of soul and ending of a soul. From birth to death, all the questions related to human existence are written in this book. Talking about Analects, it is basically a combination of sayings and ideas chosen by Confucius and his followers. This serves to be one of the central texts of Confucianism.

2. Difference of the content:-

Gita majorly focuses on the situation of “Arjuna” when he was going to fight “Dharm Yuddh” or battle of religion. Shree Krishna gave him this wisdom of Gita or “Gita gyaan” that this world is nothing. A soul is neither created and nor it meets its end. The works that we do have been decided to be done in advance. Our body just acts as a medium of getting it done. Analects on the other hand is a combination of sayings and ideas seen as a central text read by Chinese people. Gita included the wisdom that Shree Krishna gave Arjuna but Analects includes the knowledge that Confucius believed in. According to him, the welfare of a country depends on the moral cultivation of its people and this is why he included sayings and ideas in this book.

3. Religious importance:-

None of these books is less important to people who study it. Gita is one of the religious books that people study in order to attain inner satisfaction while Analects is a book that people read in order to attain values. Analects is one of the most widely read and studied books in China for last 2000 years and same is the case with Bhagavad Gita. Both these books can be taken as books of moral values or the books that cultivate moral values in people.

4. The Formation of Bhagwad Geeta As Compared To Analects:-

In the Analects, the conversations of Confucius with his disciples have been mentioned while in Bhagavad Gita, the conversations of Lord Krishna with Arjuna have been mentioned. In 479 BC, when Confucius died, these disciples began collecting and compiling the dialogues of Confucius, which were compiled together to form Analects, but in case of Bhagavad Gita, it is ascribed by sage Ved Vyasa.
